Project Overview
Catify is currently supporting the National Grid Electricity Distribution Diversions. The commission covers a single programme made up of nine schemes across Derbyshire and Lincolnshire and includes both overhead transmission and underground cable feasibility inputs.
Scope of Services
- Route planning
- Site walks
- Constraints, utilities and dangers identification (CUD)
- Desktop studies
- Section 58 checks
- Environmental assessments
- Photo capture, editing and positioning
- Custom Street View creation
- Cross-section sketches
- SED identification
- Multiple HDD profiles
Project Approach
The work combines feasibility planning, environmental review and route investigation across multiple schemes and regions. Catify is working alongside specialist partners for both the overhead transmission and underground feasibility elements, with outputs designed to inform final cable specifications and detailed design development.
Key Challenges
- A geographically dispersed programme across nine linked schemes
- Environmental constraints, including a badger sett that affected route planning
- Third-party land and landowner coordination across active farmland
- Route sections influenced by other infrastructure and confidentiality requirements, including a solar farm
Solutions and Delivery
Field and desktop feasibility activities were coordinated to assess route options and identify constraints early. Where environmental issues affected the developing alignment, route options were adjusted to keep the preferred corridor progressing. The site investigation phase also required extensive land access coordination, RAMS updates and on-the-ground problem solving to complete the route walks successfully.
Outcomes
The feasibility work is providing NGED with a structured evidence base to support detailed design and future network delivery across a strategically important programme. The commission demonstrates Catify’s ability to manage complex, multi-scheme feasibility works involving engineering, environmental and stakeholder considerations over a large geographic area.
