Project Overview
Catify delivered a complex survey package at Heathrow Terminal 4’s MSCP4 scheme, working across multiple operational levels over a five-month programme. The project was undertaken to support the redesign of the terminal infrastructure and required highly accurate survey control alongside extensive utility and asset capture.
Scope of Services
- High-precision control network establishment
- Underground utility and asset survey
- Multi-level survey alignment across 27 station points
- Survey data capture to support redesign outputs
Project Approach
mm across four distinct levels. This demanded careful coordination of access and a methodology capable of bringing multiple survey areas into one coherent network. Beyond the control element, the wider survey package included extensive manhole, utility and dataset capture throughout the site.
Key Challenges
- Very tight accuracy tolerances for the control network
- Initial inability to obtain sequential access across the required station points
- Operational constraints including permits, HV embargoes, surcharged chambers and stakeholder coordination
- A large site with multiple levels and constrained working windows
Solutions and Delivery
Catify worked with Ferrovial and Heathrow to align the programme & permitting so that simultaneous access to the control stations could be enabled, allowing the network to be adjusted within tolerance. Once the control established, the project team progressed the wider survey scope, capturing 554 manholes, 145 datasets and 11 km of utility information across the site. The delivery combined precision survey control with robust site coordination to maintain quality in a highly constrained operational environment.
Outcomes
The completed survey package provided a reliable technical basis for ongoing redesign works at Heathrow Terminal 4. The scheme demonstrates Catify’s capability in high-accuracy, high-constraint aviation environments where survey control, survey methodology and access planning all need to align.
